Kitchen & bath is a big market, but the words are vague. Customs doesn't read words — it reads codes. Below are the biggest HS lines in US kitchen & bath imports, from US customs data.

HS code, in one line

An HS code is the number customs uses for a product — 6 digits worldwide, 10 in the US. Your tax rate and your competitors both hide inside that number.

The biggest US kitchen & bath imports

  • 848180 — taps, valves and fittings for pipes (faucets and more) — about $8 billion a year. Top supplier: Mexico.
  • 848190 — parts for taps and valves — about $2.8 billion. Top supplier: China.
  • 848120 — valves for hydraulic and pneumatic systems — about $1.6 billion. Top supplier: Mexico.
  • 691010 — ceramic sanitaryware (sinks, washbasins, baths, toilets) — about $943 million. Top supplier: China.
  • 848130 — check valves — about $410 million. Top supplier: China.

An honest note: the valve lines (848180, 848120, 848130) are broad — they include industrial valves too, not only kitchen & bath. The line that clearly means bathroom is 691010, ceramic sanitaryware — and its top supplier is China.

This is different from building materials

In building materials, China is largely kept out by high duties. In kitchen & bath, China is already a top supplier of parts and ceramic fixtures. Most products here face the Section 301 tariff of 25% or 7.5% — but not the near-prohibitive anti-dumping duty that hits tile. So your rivals are more often another Chinese factory and Mexico, not Italy. That means a price war won't win — steady quality, lead time, and service will.

The top sources for US kitchen & bath are Mexico (about $3.2 billion), China (about $2.7 billion), Germany, and Japan. Figures are from recent US customs records (see the USITC DataWeb); rates change, so check the official US tariff schedule (HTS) before you quote.
